Bunnies Prance for Guitar Hero 5: “Meh”

First time, it was clever and fun.  Second time it was still fun and a bit edgier.  Plus it gave the “Culture Warrior” a case of the steaming eardrums.

This time, it’s just “meh”.  I’m totally indifferent about this ad.  It’s the same thing, same song, same prancy girls and it’s the same schtick.  Meh.

I like Guitar Hero, it’s a fun game, and no one’s dumb enough to think that if you buy this game, Playboy bunnies will gyrate and wiggle on your coffee table.  If you’re lucky, your friend wont smash your coffee table when she tries to do a spin.

It’s time to think of something new.  It’s time to refresh the ideas and not just stick to something that has completely lost its edge, its uniqueness and its originality.  Please, it’s no longer fresh… it’s not unique and we’ve all seen it before.

This is the problem I have with a lot of video game marketing.  They KNOW that the demographics for this game is not significantly dominated by men, they KNOW that the gaming audience is no longer dominated by men, they KNOW that this idea was fresh in its time… I’d hate to be a dead horse around these guys.

Please Guitar Hero, you’re ads are becoming a one trick pony.  I don’t mind the hyper-sexification of the ads, that’s not what bugs me.  What bugs me is that it’s the same ad over and over again.  You even have the venerable Hefner saying “I like variety”.  Again… “meh”.   If this is the best you can give us, your endless stream of sequels will become as outdated as the print medium…. you know, like Playboy.
