Disney Looking To Take Over Casual Gaming

See the pattern? If Disney adds Playdom to their roster, then we’re looking at one mega company that’s got three casual game developers and lots of money to put behind them making a lot of games for Disney only. And since this is a market that in some cases has proven more profitable than console or PC games it’s a good bet that if they play this hand of three aces, Disney will be in a good position to dominate the market. How will this affect the Facebook, iPhone casual gaming crowd? It’s hard to say at this point if this translates into a whole bunch of Disney themed casual games but it will certainly change the face of the casual gaming market. Or should I say, ears?

Not only did the first Sims win GOTY in 2000, the game went on make 2 more sequels as well as a variety of offshoots (SIMS pets, SIMS House Party) and expansion packs and to date as a franchise has sold more than 100 million copies. Over the years the game has even expanded to the consoles and Macs as well. It’s uncertain if the game can continue to garner fans for another decade but even if it doesn’t, The Sims has certainly made it’s mark in gaming history.
