Does Nintendo Need to Compete With Microsft and Sony?

Where it gets tricky for Nintendo is if, say six months from now it becomes clear that their device no longer delivers on it’s one crucial advantage — the motion control. Only then will they be in a situation where they may have to be prepared to see the demise of their system entirely. And if they’re not ready for it, things will not bode well for them going into the next generation of consoles. For now though, the virtual kick ball is in Sony and Microsoft’s court.

Playstation Move — Ready to Roll In September — Take That Microsoft

Now that we have the price points for both new motion controllers from Sony and Microsoft here’s the breakdown.

* Sony being ahead of the game with their launch in September and offering different price points for their peripheral devices.
* Microsoft will have no controllers and one fixed price point and launch in November.
* For the Move you can expect to spend $50 for a one wand controller, $100 for a two wand controller (for fighting games and such), $100 for the one wand and the necessary eye camera or $400 for a bundle that will include a new console.
* Microsoft will be charging $150 for the Kinect.
* From a superficial perspective the Move seems amazingly intuitive and precise.
* Kinect, since it’s part of a whole new GUI looks to have functionality that goes beyond gaming. As to how all of this will work together remains to be seen.

Nothing says fun like a good old fashioned console war. Let the marketing blitz begin.
